About

Australian electro-pop duo Empire of the Sun possess a well-proven ability to entertain. Known for their epic performances chock-full of production value and artistic flare, the band treated fans to one of the most exciting and synergistic concert experiences of the 2013 summer festival circuit. Accompanied on stage by a troupe of costumed dancers and state-of-the-art visuals, Empire of the Sun wowed ticket holders across the US and Europe with their energetic sets of danceable hits like "Alive" from 2013's Ice on the Dune.

Empire of the Sun began as the side project of musicians Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau.  With the success of their 2008 debut album Walking on a Dream, the project became a focal point for the duo, resulting in their first live performances as a band in 2009. In 2013, their sophomore album Ice on the Dune reached No. 3 in Australia and No. 20 on the US Billboard 200, with lead single "Alive" receiving the remix treatment by some of the world's top DJs including David Guetta, Zedd and DJ Tiesto. With their electrifying performance style, adrenalized synths, and electro beats, the duo is not afraid to push the limits of showmanship, leaving fans eager for their 2014 performances.

  • A Spectacular Show: Empire of the Sun Live

by Jenn on 12/2/24Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Attending an Empire of the Sun concert is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and this show was no exception—it was, without a doubt, one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. From start to finish, EOTS delivered a mesmerizing performance that captivated the audience. Their live energy is absolutely phenomenal. Every minute of the concert was an immersive blend of music, visuals, and theatrics. The light show was dazzling, perfectly synchronized with their signature electro-pop sound. The background imagery added a surreal, dreamlike quality that made the performance feel like stepping into another world. Luke Steele’s wardrobe and makeup were the icing on the cake. His bold, avant-garde style was nothing short of “freaking cool,” and it added an extra layer of artistry to the entire spectacle. Every element, from the sound to the visuals, was meticulously crafted to create a unique, unforgettable experience. Empire of the Sun live is not just a concert—it’s a journey. If you ever have the chance to see them perform, don’t hesitate. It’s an electrifying show that will leave you wanting more.

  • A fantastic show, but no room to dance

    by Andrew M on 12/1/24Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed Empire of the Sun, they put on a fantastic show and the sound was great quality. My complaint is that Hollywood bowl packs in the people and there is not a lot of room for people to dance expressively because we are all shoulder to shoulder.

  • Great sound and visuals. Well organized.

Nothing to complain about. Great sound, visuals and easy to navigate to and from the venue. Food and drinks great.

  • Good but disappointed

by Lolo on 11/27/24Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

We LOVE Empire of the Sun music...BUT....we were disappointed that one of the band members didn't show (and it was not mentioned at all even though apparent). Also there was a lot lip syncing and overdubbing. Guitar was live...vocals were not. Costumes good and crowd was plentiful...Hollywood Bowl always a good time.

  • So Alive

by Three on 11/27/24Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Wow, they sure put on a show! This was the first time I had invested in getting a box at the Bowl. Since they are so expensive I have never been able to afford it, but this time the four of us went all in! The lead up to the concert was very smooth. We took the park and ride, plenty of room to park and the shuttles are quite nice. Getting in was easy, I love that we have the green pathway to walk up the hill now. Definitely helps with the crowds. It was easy to find our seats, and there were plenty of employees to help us with the table set up. The only down side was two of the check out stations at the Marketplace were out of order so the line was insane. We wanted to snack before the show and we ended up going right until the last minute when the show started. But overall the show was amazing, would do it again!

  • Amazing night

    by cbeach0 on 11/27/24Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

My second time seeing EOTS and it was super fun. The opener Neil Francis was fun & a good lead-in for the positive vibes of EOTS. The backup dancers had interesting costumes as always and accompanied bright backing visuals. It all matched up well with their album art & music videos. Even in the light rain, the crowd started energetic and sang along to every song.

Hollywood Bowl is a great venue for a great band. Empire did not disappoint! Their live performance is as good-if not better than their recordings, and I loved the way the built the playlist. lOVE WATCHING THE DANCERS TOO. Thank you EOTS and looking forward to the next concert from Empire.
